FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In the city of Namangan, within the “Zarbdor” mahalla, construction has begun on what will be the largest mosque in Uzbekistan. The project, named in honor of Saidazimkhoja – the grandfather of the renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist Ruziohun Saidazimov (Azim Roy) – is not only the creation of a unique architectural landmark but also the revival of a centuries-old family tradition of philanthropy.
The impetus for the construction came during Azim Roy’s visit to Namangan for the annual flower festival. While visiting his native region, he wished to see where his ancestors were laid to rest. It was there, on his ancestral land, that the elders of the mahalla approached him with a request to help rebuild the mosque that had stood on that very site for nearly 360 years before being closed in the 1930s. Deeply moved by their plea, Azim Roy felt it was his duty to fulfill their request.
For Azim Roy, whose ancestors were exiled from Namangan during the years of repression, this project has become a symbolic return to his roots and an act of restoring historical justice.
«For me, this is more than just a construction project. It is a tribute to my grandfather, Saidazimkhoja, and a response to the request of the elders, whose wisdom I deeply respect,» says Azim Roy.
«To revive a mosque on this historic site, where my ancestors prayed, is an honor and my personal duty. I want to leave behind something that will serve the people and stand as a reminder of the power of faith and the continuity of generations.»
The project is unique to the region not only in its scale but also in its approach. Azim Roy insisted that the construction be funded entirely by his personal means, completely relieving the local community of any financial burden. Despite this, the initiative has united many people.
A local entrepreneur, Kudratbek Abdullaev, has provided the best specialists in the field of design, while residents of the “Zarbdor” mahalla have been actively participating in the work on a voluntary basis (a tradition known as hashar), contributing to the common cause from the very first days. The project is managed by the philanthropist’s nephews, Mirjalol and Mirzafar Miryusupov.
«We are creating not just a building, but a work of art that combines the age-old traditions of Namangan craftsmen with modern engineering solutions,» notes project manager Mirjalol Miryusupov.
«Every element here is being created with the future in mind. This is the result of incredible synergy – the wise vision of Ruziohun-aka, our experience, and the selfless labor of dozens of mahalla residents. This mosque will become a true pearl of Namangan, a joy for all to behold.»
The Saidazimov family’s deep historical connection to philanthropy in Namangan spans several centuries. Research by journalist Rahimjon Irisov revealed that Azim Roy’s great-great-grandfather, Abdullohodja eshon, also built a mosque in Namangan nearly 500 years ago, underscoring the unbreakable bond of generations in serving their community.
